John Roosevelt (politician)

John Roosevelt (1916-1981) was an American businessman and philanthropist, and a member of the prominent Roosevelt family. He was the youngest son of U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt.

While his father was a central figure in American politics for over a decade, John Roosevelt largely remained outside of the political arena. He pursued a career in business, primarily in retail and insurance. He held positions at companies such as Filene's department store and later established his own insurance brokerage firm.

John Roosevelt also dedicated time and resources to philanthropic endeavors, continuing the Roosevelt family tradition of public service. He was involved in various charitable organizations and supported causes related to social welfare and community development.

His personal life included three marriages. His first wife was Anne L. Clark, followed by Irene Boyd McAlpin, and finally Patricia Oakes Davis. He had several children from his marriages.

Though he did not seek elected office, John Roosevelt was a significant figure due to his family lineage and his contributions to the business world and philanthropic community. He died in 1981 at the age of 65.
