Lyrasis
Lyrasis is a non-profit membership organization serving libraries, museums, archives, and other cultural heritage institutions. It provides services and support in the areas of technology, content, and community, helping members preserve and access cultural and scientific information, foster collaboration, and develop strategies for long-term sustainability.
Lyrasis was formed in 2009 through the merger of three regional organizations: SOLINET (Southeastern Library Network), PALINET (Pennsylvania Academic Library Network), and the Preservation and Conservation arm of OCLC (Online Computer Library Center). The organization aims to provide scale and efficiency in the delivery of services to its members.
Key areas of focus for Lyrasis include:
-
Content Licensing: Negotiating favorable pricing and terms for access to electronic resources, databases, and other digital content.
-
Technology Services: Providing technology hosting, support, and consulting services for digital collections management, preservation, and access. This can include platforms like ArchivesSpace and CollectionSpace.
-
Community Building: Facilitating collaboration and knowledge sharing among member institutions through conferences, webinars, and online forums.
-
Preservation Services: Offering training, resources, and consulting services to help institutions preserve their collections, both physical and digital.
Lyrasis aims to support its members in adapting to the changing information landscape and ensuring the long-term accessibility of cultural heritage materials. Membership is open to a variety of institutions, including academic libraries, public libraries, museums, archives, historical societies, and government agencies. The organization is governed by a board of directors elected by its membership.
