Brazilian submarine Humaitá (S20)
The Humaitá (S20) is a Riachuelo-class diesel-electric attack submarine (SSK) of the Brazilian Navy. It is the second submarine of its class, based on the French Scorpène-class submarine design.
Launched in December 2020 and commissioned in January 2024, the Humaitá represents a significant advancement in Brazil's submarine capabilities. Its construction is part of the larger PROSUB program, a strategic partnership between Brazil and France aimed at transferring technology and bolstering Brazil's defense industry.
The submarine is designed for a variety of missions, including anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, intelligence gathering, and maritime patrol. Its features include advanced combat systems, improved stealth capabilities, and an extended operational range compared to Brazil's older submarines. The Humaitá is equipped with torpedoes and anti-ship missiles.
