HMS Cumberland (1774)

HMS Cumberland was a 74-gun third-rate ship of the line in the Royal Navy, launched in 1774. She was built at Deptford Dockyard to the lines of the Bellona-class design.

Her service history included participation in numerous naval actions during the American Revolutionary War and the French Revolutionary Wars. Notably, she was involved in the Battle of Cape St Vincent in 1780 under Admiral Rodney.

Cumberland underwent repairs and refits throughout her career, reflecting the constant wear and tear faced by warships of the era. She also served as a flagship for various admirals at different points.

After many years of service, HMS Cumberland was eventually hulked and used for harbor service before being disposed of in the early 19th century. Her career exemplified the long service life and vital role played by ships of the line in maintaining British naval power during a period of intense global conflict.
