Ashby station (MARTA)
Ashby station is a train station in Atlanta, Georgia, serving the Blue and Green lines of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rail system. It is located in the historic West End neighborhood, near the intersection of Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard (formerly Ashby Street) and Westview Drive.
The station provides access to several nearby attractions and institutions, including the West End commercial district, the Wren's Nest (home of Joel Chandler Harris), and several historic churches and residences. Bus service is also available from the station, connecting riders to destinations throughout the West End and surrounding areas.
Ashby station features a park-and-ride lot for commuters and includes accessible features compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). It is a crucial transit hub for residents and visitors seeking to navigate Atlanta's west side. The station opened on December 22, 1979 as part of the West Line extension. In 2006, Ashby Street was renamed Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard, but the station retained its original name until 2020. On January 4, 2020, the station was officially renamed to Ashby station. The renaming commemorated the legacy of the street it was originally named after.
