USS Charleston (C-22)
The USS Charleston (C-22) was a St. Louis-class protected cruiser in the United States Navy. Commissioned in 1905, she served until 1923. As part of the St. Louis class, she was designed for long-range cruising and commerce raiding, reflecting the strategic thinking of the era.
Throughout her career, USS Charleston (C-22) performed a variety of duties, including serving as a training ship, participating in fleet maneuvers, and deploying to foreign waters to represent American interests. She was involved in patrols along the Pacific coast of South America and also served in European waters during World War I, escorting convoys and patrolling for enemy submarines. After World War I, the Charleston was used primarily for training purposes. She was decommissioned in 1923 and subsequently sold for scrap. Her service highlights the transition from the pre-dreadnought era to the interwar period in naval history.
