SM UC-94

SM UC-94 was a German Type UC II minelaying submarine or U-boat in the German Imperial Navy (Kaiserliche Marine) during World War I. She was commissioned on November 24, 1917.

The UC II submarines were larger and more powerfully armed than their UC I predecessors. SM UC-94 displaced 417 tons surfaced and 493 tons submerged. The submarine was 49.35 meters (161 ft 11 in) in overall length, with a beam of 5.22 meters (17 ft 2 in) and a draft of 3.65 meters (12 ft 0 in). She was powered by two six-cylinder four-stroke diesel engines each driving one propeller shaft, producing a total of 500 bhp (370 kW; 510 PS). She also had two electric motors, each rated at 620 PS (460 kW; 610 shp; 630 PS) for use while submerged. UC-94 had a surface speed of 11.6 knots (21.5 km/h; 13.3 mph) and a submerged speed of 6.7 knots (12.4 km/h; 7.7 mph).

As a minelayer, UC-94 was equipped with six mine tubes and carried a complement of up to 18 UC 200-kilogram (440 lb) mines. She was also armed with one 8.8 cm (3.5 in) Uk L/30 deck gun.

UC-94 sank 19 ships during her service, for a total of 45,785 gross register tons (GRT). She also damaged one ship of 7,047 GRT. SM UC-94 was sunk on May 20, 1918 in the English Channel near Start Point, Devon, by depth charges from the British destroyer HMS Vidette. There were no survivors.
