Treungen

Treungen is a village and former municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Sørlandet. The village of Treungen lies along the river Nidelva, about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) northwest of the town of Åmli. Historically, it was the administrative center of the former Treungen municipality.

The area surrounding Treungen is largely forested and mountainous, with several lakes and rivers. Agriculture and forestry have traditionally been important industries in the region. Tourism is also a significant economic factor, with opportunities for hiking, fishing, and other outdoor activities.

Treungen Church is located in the village.

History:

Treungen was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt law). On 1 January 1967, the municipalities of Gjøvdal and Treungen were merged to form the new municipality of Åmli. At the time of the merger, Treungen had a population of 827. The name "Treungen" is still used for the village area within Åmli municipality.
