Nancy (comic strip)

Nancy is a long-running, syndicated comic strip created by Ernie Bushmiller, debuting in 1938. The strip centers around the eponymous character, Nancy, an eight-year-old girl known for her short, spiky hair, large bow, and simple, geometric design.

Nancy is characterized by its minimalist art style, reliance on visual gags, and often absurd humor. The plots frequently involve Nancy and her best friend, Sluggo, engaging in mischievous activities, pursuing simple pleasures, or encountering humorous situations.

Following Bushmiller's death in 1982, the strip was continued by other artists, including Mark Ervin, Jerry Scott, and Guy Gilchrist. In 2018, Olivia Jaimes took over as the writer and artist, introducing a more contemporary style and sense of humor to the strip while retaining the core characters and themes. This transition was initially met with mixed reactions but has largely been credited with revitalizing the comic for a modern audience. The updated Nancy often incorporates meta-humor and commentary on modern technology and culture.
