RB-120

The RB-120, often specifically referred to as the AIM-120 AMRAAM (Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile), is a family of air-to-air missiles used by the United States Air Force and other allied nations. It is a radar-guided, beyond-visual-range (BVR) missile designed to engage enemy aircraft at medium to long ranges.

The AIM-120 was developed as a replacement for the AIM-7 Sparrow missile, offering improvements in range, speed, and accuracy, as well as being lighter and more maneuverable. Its active radar guidance allows it to engage targets independently after launch, allowing the launch aircraft to engage other targets or disengage.

Several variants of the AIM-120 exist, including the AIM-120A, AIM-120B, AIM-120C, AIM-120D, and future planned iterations. Each variant introduces improvements in performance, range, electronic countermeasures resistance, and overall effectiveness. The AIM-120 is compatible with a wide range of fighter aircraft, including the F-15, F-16, F/A-18, F-22, and F-35.

The missile utilizes a solid-propellant rocket motor and aerodynamic control surfaces to achieve high speeds and maneuverability. Its active radar seeker allows it to track and engage targets autonomously, even in adverse weather conditions or electronic warfare environments.

The AIM-120 has seen extensive use in combat operations since its introduction and is considered a key component of modern air combat strategies. It is widely exported and used by numerous air forces around the world.
