Virago (horse)

Virago was a British Thoroughbred racehorse, foaled in 1962. She was known for her exceptional speed and stamina, particularly over longer distances. Virago was owned by Sir Michael Sobell and trained by Geoffrey Barling.

Her notable victories included the 1965 Epsom Oaks, a prestigious Group 1 race for three-year-old fillies run over a mile and a half. She also won the Yorkshire Oaks that same year, further solidifying her reputation as a leading stayer.

Virago's racing career, though relatively short, marked her as one of the top fillies of her generation in British racing. After retiring from racing, she became a broodmare, though she did not produce any offspring that matched her own racing achievements. Her legacy remains primarily through her own on-track accomplishments.
