Benga (musician)
Benga, born Adegbenga Adejumo (c. 1986), is a British dubstep producer, DJ, and musician from Croydon, South London. He is widely recognized as a pioneer in the dubstep genre, having been involved in its development from its early stages in the early 2000s.
Benga's career began at a young age, producing music and DJing while still a teenager. He quickly gained recognition within the London underground music scene. He is known for his distinct sound, characterized by heavy basslines, intricate rhythms, and innovative use of synthesizers.
He has released numerous singles and EPs on influential labels such as Tempa, Planet Mu, and his own Benga Beats imprint. His debut album, Diary of an Afro Warrior, was released in 2008.
Benga has collaborated with a variety of artists, including Skream, Coki, and Katy B. His work has been influential in shaping the sound of dubstep and electronic music more broadly.
After a period of relative inactivity due to mental health challenges, Benga has returned to music production and DJing. He has been open about his struggles and advocates for mental health awareness within the music industry. His contributions to dubstep have solidified his place as a significant figure in electronic music history.
