David Vance (soldier)
David Vance (born circa 1755, died 1812) was an American soldier who served during the American Revolutionary War. He enlisted from North Carolina and fought in various campaigns against British forces. Information on his specific rank and units is somewhat inconsistent across historical records, but he is generally identified as having served as a private and possibly achieved the rank of sergeant at some point. Following the war, he migrated westward, settling in areas that are now part of Tennessee and Kentucky. Vance was also involved in early land disputes and development in these territories. Records indicate he was active in local politics and community affairs. His family became prominent in the region, and descendants played roles in subsequent American history. Further research is complicated by the commonality of the Vance surname and a lack of comprehensive documentation from the period.
