Unicorn (Japanese band)

Unicorn is a Japanese rock band formed in 1986. They are known for their eclectic musical style, humorous lyrics, and energetic live performances. The original lineup consisted of Kazushi Okuda (vocals, guitar, keyboard), Koichi Kawanishi (drums), Yoshiharu Ebihara (bass), and Isamu Teshima (guitar). Later, Tamio Abe (credited simply as Abe B) joined as a vocalist and keyboardist.

Unicorn achieved significant commercial success in the late 1980s and early 1990s, releasing several hit albums and singles. Their music blended elements of rock, pop, funk, and even hints of classical music, creating a unique and recognizable sound. Okuda's songwriting and Abe B's distinctive vocals were key components of their popularity.

Despite their success, Unicorn disbanded in 1993. Each member pursued solo careers, with Okuda Tamio achieving considerable success as a solo artist.

In 2009, Unicorn reunited after a 16-year hiatus. They have since released new albums and toured extensively, proving their continued appeal to both longtime fans and new listeners. Their reunion albums and live shows showcase their enduring musical talent and quirky sense of humor.

Unicorn remains a highly influential band in Japanese rock music, inspiring many artists with their originality and playful approach to music. They are considered one of the most important bands of the late 1980s and early 1990s Japanese rock scene.
