Hugh Courtenay (died 1425)

Hugh Courtenay (died 1425) was an English nobleman and Member of Parliament. He was the son of Sir Hugh Courtenay (died 1374) and Maud de Mohun.

He inherited considerable lands and influence in Devon and Cornwall. He served as a Member of Parliament for Devon multiple times, reflecting the Courtenay family's prominence in the region.

He married Matilda Beaumont, daughter of John Beaumont, 4th Baron Beaumont. They had at least two children: Hugh Courtenay, Earl of Devon (died 1422) who predeceased him, and Sir Edward Courtenay.

His death in 1425 led to a complex inheritance situation as his son Hugh had already died, leaving a grandson, also named Hugh, as the heir. This younger Hugh Courtenay would eventually become Earl of Devon. His estates and titles contributed to the Courtenay family's continued power and influence in the West Country during the late medieval period.
