Orepuki

Orepuki is a small coastal settlement located in the Southland region of New Zealand's South Island. It lies approximately 20 kilometers west of Riverton, along the Southern Scenic Route.

Orepuki is historically significant for its gold mining past. Gold was discovered in the area in the late 19th century, leading to a brief gold rush and a period of growth for the settlement. Evidence of this mining history can still be found in the surrounding landscape.

Today, Orepuki is a quiet community, attracting visitors with its rugged coastline, beaches suitable for surfing and fishing, and access to walking tracks. It is also known for its close proximity to Monkey Island, a small island that is accessible at low tide. The local economy is primarily based on agriculture, tourism, and fishing.
