Frank Tuttle (artist)

Frank Tuttle (1883-1954) was an American Impressionist painter known for his landscapes, particularly those depicting scenes of Long Island, New York, and the New England coast. He was associated with the Lyme Art Colony in Old Lyme, Connecticut.

Tuttle studied at the Art Students League in New York City, where he was a pupil of Henry Ward Ranger. His work often featured loose brushstrokes and a focus on capturing the atmospheric effects of light and weather. He exhibited extensively throughout his career, including at the National Academy of Design, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art.

His paintings are included in the collections of several museums, including the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, Connecticut, and the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, Connecticut. While not as widely known as some of his contemporaries in the American Impressionist movement, Tuttle's work provides a valuable glimpse into the aesthetic sensibilities of the early 20th century American art scene.
