Major Indoor Soccer League (2008–2014)
The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) was a professional indoor soccer league that operated in the United States from 2008 to 2014. It represented a revival of the MISL name, previously used by a league that existed from 2002 to 2008 (sometimes referred to as MISL I or MISL II to differentiate them).
The league consisted primarily of teams located in the eastern and midwestern United States. Throughout its existence, the MISL served as a platform for showcasing skilled players and provided an alternative soccer experience geared towards a fast-paced, high-scoring environment. The league operated under slightly modified indoor soccer rules to enhance the entertainment value for fans.
The MISL's teams frequently featured players with experience in outdoor professional soccer leagues, as well as players who specialized in the indoor game. The league was committed to providing competitive soccer at a regional level, and often saw teams involved in close rivalries and exciting playoff matchups.
The final season of the MISL was the 2013-2014 season. Following the conclusion of that season, several teams left to form new leagues or join existing ones, effectively ending the run of the Major Indoor Soccer League. The departure of these teams was based on differing visions of how the league should operate and the direction of professional indoor soccer in the United States.
