Varde (nomination district)

Varde is a nomination district (Norwegian: valgkrets) used in parliamentary elections in Norway. It is one of 19 nomination districts within Hordaland county. Prior to 2020, Hordaland was a separate county, but it was merged with Sogn og Fjordane to form Vestland county. Despite the merger, the nomination districts remain unchanged for parliamentary election purposes.

The purpose of the nomination district is to elect representatives (Members of Parliament, MPs) to the Storting (the Norwegian parliament). The number of representatives elected from each nomination district is determined by a formula based on population and area. Varde, along with the other Hordaland nomination districts, contributes to the total number of MPs elected from Hordaland county.

The specific boundaries and constituent municipalities within the Varde nomination district are defined by law and are subject to change periodically to reflect shifts in population distribution. Voters residing within the geographical boundaries of Varde are eligible to participate in the parliamentary elections and elect representatives from this district. The political parties nominate candidates who then compete for the available seats representing Varde in the Storting.
