George Hayes (judge)

George Hayes (1847-1923) was an Irish judge and legal writer. He served as a Justice of the King's Bench Division of the High Court of Justice in Ireland.

Hayes was born in County Down. He was educated at Trinity College Dublin, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1869 and a Doctor of Laws degree in 1880. He was called to the Irish Bar in 1871 and became a Queen's Counsel in 1892.

Hayes was appointed to the High Court in 1905 and served until his retirement in 1919. He was known for his expertise in common law and his contributions to legal scholarship. He authored several legal treatises, including "The Law Relating to Conveyancing in Ireland," which was a standard work for many years.

While his judicial career was notable, Hayes is often remembered for his detailed and comprehensive legal writings, which contributed significantly to the understanding and application of Irish law during his time.
