Nedo Nadi

Nedo Nadi (June 9, 1894 – January 29, 1940) was an Italian fencer, considered one of the greatest fencers of all time. He is the only fencer to have won a gold medal in all three weapons (foil, épée, and sabre) at a single Olympic Games, achieving this feat at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp.

Nadi was born in Livorno, Italy. His father, Beppe Nadi, was a fencing master who taught him the sport from a young age. He was known for his elegant and aggressive style, mastering all three fencing disciplines. His brother, Aldo Nadi, was also a successful fencer.

Nedo Nadi's Olympic career began at the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm, where he won a gold medal in the individual foil event at the age of 18. World War I interrupted his fencing career, but he returned to the sport to achieve his greatest successes at the 1920 Antwerp Olympics. There, he won gold medals in individual foil, team foil, individual sabre, team sabre, and team épée.

After the 1920 Olympics, Nadi focused on coaching and writing about fencing. He wrote "On Fencing," a highly influential book on the sport. He later moved to the United States, where he continued to teach and promote fencing.

Nedo Nadi's legacy as one of the most versatile and successful fencers in history remains secure. His achievements at the 1920 Olympics are unlikely to be repeated, solidifying his place as a legend in the sport. He is remembered for his skill, athleticism, and contribution to the development of fencing as a modern sport.
