Michael Collins (baseball)

Michael Collins (born October 31, 1870, in Providence, Rhode Island; died September 8, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois) was an American professional baseball player and manager. He played primarily as a catcher and outfielder in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1894 to 1908.

Collins played for several teams throughout his career, including the Boston Beaneaters (1894-1897), Louisville Colonels (1898), Pittsburgh Pirates (1899), Philadelphia Phillies (1900), Chicago White Sox (1901-1906), New York Highlanders (1907), and Detroit Tigers (1908).

He was a key member of the Chicago White Sox team that won the 1906 World Series, defeating the Chicago Cubs. Collins served as the team's manager from 1905 to 1906, leading them to the championship in his second year. His managerial record for the White Sox was 183 wins and 113 losses.

Following his playing and managing career, Collins worked as a scout for several MLB teams. He is remembered as a successful player and manager during the early years of the American League.
