Beer (lunar crater)
Beer is a lunar impact crater located in the southern part of Mare Imbrium. It lies to the northwest of the prominent crater Copernicus, and south of the smaller crater Feuillée.
Beer is a relatively well-defined crater with a sharp rim and terraced inner walls. The interior floor is somewhat irregular and contains a small central peak. The crater displays a relatively high albedo compared to the surrounding mare, making it readily visible during favorable lighting conditions.
The crater was named after the German astronomer Wilhelm Beer (1797-1850), who co-authored the influential lunar atlas Mappa Selenographica with Johann Heinrich Mädler. The mare area surrounding Beer is relatively flat, and the crater serves as a noticeable landmark. Smaller craters also exist near Beer, adding to the complex geological landscape of the region.
