Elisabeth of Nassau-Siegen (1488–1559)
Elisabeth of Nassau-Siegen (born circa 1488, died 3 June 1559) was a Countess of Nassau-Siegen. She was the daughter of John V, Count of Nassau-Siegen and Elisabeth of Hesse-Marburg.
Elisabeth married John III, Count of Wied (died 1533) on 27 January 1506. The marriage produced several children, including:
- Philipp II, Count of Wied (d. 1542)
- John IV, Count of Wied (d. 1581)
- Agnes of Wied (d. 1588), married Reinhard I, Count of Isenburg-Büdingen-Birstein.
- Walpurgis of Wied (d. 1586), married Philip III, Count of Erbach.
Following her husband's death in 1533, Elisabeth took on an active role in the regency and administration of the County of Wied, particularly during the minority of her sons. She is considered an important figure in the early history of the House of Wied. Her influence extended beyond purely familial concerns, as she navigated the complex political landscape of the Holy Roman Empire and helped secure the future of her family's territory. She is buried in the Abbey Church of Rommersdorf.
