Ronald Powell (footballer)
Ronald Powell (August 24, 1991 – January 11, 2024) was an American football linebacker. He played college football at Florida, where he was a highly-regarded recruit, and was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
Powell attended Rancho Verde High School in Moreno Valley, California, where he was a consensus five-star recruit and one of the top-rated defensive players in the nation. He was named a Parade All-American and played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
He played for the University of Florida Gators from 2010 to 2013. His college career was hampered by injuries, including a torn ACL that caused him to miss the 2012 season. He declared for the NFL Draft after his redshirt junior season.
Powell was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the fifth round (169th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft. He also spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears, and Seattle Seahawks. After his NFL career, he played in the Alliance of American Football (AAF) for the Memphis Express in 2019.
Powell died on January 11, 2024, at the age of 32. The cause of death was not immediately released.
