Geshur (Israeli settlement)
Geshur is an Israeli settlement located in the Golan Heights. It is situated in the southern Golan, and falls under the jurisdiction of the Golan Regional Council. The international community considers Israeli settlements in the Golan Heights illegal under international law, a position Israel disputes.
The settlement was established in 1976. Its economy is primarily based on agriculture, including vineyards and orchards, and tourism. The population is largely secular.
The name "Geshur" is taken from the ancient Kingdom of Geshur, which existed in the region during biblical times. Archaeological remains in the area suggest a long history of human habitation.
