Robert Weiss (choreographer)
Robert Weiss (born in New York City) is an American choreographer, artistic director, and former dancer. He is primarily known for his work in ballet, encompassing both classical and contemporary styles.
Weiss trained at the School of American Ballet, the official school of the New York City Ballet (NYCB). He danced with the New York City Ballet under the direction of George Balanchine, performing in numerous ballets in the company's repertory.
Following his performing career, Weiss transitioned to choreography. He has created original works for various ballet companies across the United States and internationally, including Pacific Northwest Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, and others. His choreographic style often blends traditional ballet technique with modern sensibilities.
In addition to his choreographic work, Weiss has held artistic leadership positions. He served as the artistic director of Ballet Oklahoma for many years, where he oversaw the company's artistic direction, repertoire, and training programs. He has also taught and mentored numerous dancers throughout his career.
