Radagast
Radagast the Brown is a fictional character in J.R.R. Tolkien's legendarium, appearing in The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion. He is one of the Istari (Wizards) sent to Middle-earth to aid the Free Peoples against Sauron.
Radagast distinguishes himself from the other Istari, such as Gandalf and Saruman, by his deep connection with nature and animals. He resides at Rhosgobel, a dwelling near the borders of Mirkwood, and is known for his expertise in herbs and beasts. He has a particular affinity for birds, who serve as his messengers and informants.
While his primary mission was to oppose Sauron, Radagast's love for the natural world often led him to prioritize its preservation and well-being. He is sometimes portrayed as somewhat naive and easily distracted from the broader political and strategic concerns facing Middle-earth.
Saruman exploits Radagast's trusting nature, using him to lure Gandalf to Orthanc, where Saruman imprisons him. Despite this, Radagast unknowingly aids the Fellowship indirectly by alerting Gandalf about the movements of the Nazgûl.
The fate of Radagast after the War of the Ring is not explicitly stated in Tolkien's writings. It is presumed that, like the other Istari who remained faithful to their mission, he eventually departed Middle-earth. His role in the larger story highlights the importance of ecological stewardship and the diverse approaches taken by the Istari in combating evil.
