Hans Ree

Hans Ree (born 15 November 1944) is a Dutch chess grandmaster, writer, and mathematician.

Ree was awarded the International Master title in 1968 and the Grandmaster title in 1971. He has represented the Netherlands in numerous Chess Olympiads, winning an individual bronze medal in 1976.

Beyond his playing career, Ree is well-known for his chess writing. He is the author of several books, including collections of his essays and articles, often characterized by a critical and insightful perspective on the chess world, its personalities, and its politics. His writing style is generally considered witty and engaging. He has also contributed regularly to chess magazines and newspapers.

Ree also holds a doctorate in mathematics from the University of Amsterdam.
