Histeria!
Histeria! was an animated educational comedy television series created by Tom Ruegger and produced by Warner Bros. Animation. It aired from 1998 to 2001, primarily on Kids' WB. The show featured a cast of anthropomorphic historical figures, caricatured to comedic extremes, interacting with a group of present-day kids known as the "Histeria! Kids."
The premise of Histeria! centered around presenting historical events, people, and ideas in a humorous and often satirical manner. Skits and musical numbers were common, and the show frequently employed slapstick humor, puns, and topical references to entertain its target audience while subtly imparting historical information. Segments covered a broad range of historical periods and locations, from ancient Egypt to the American Revolution, and everything in between.
A core element of the show was the dynamic between the historical figures and the Histeria! Kids. The historical characters, often exaggerated versions of their real-life counterparts, would engage in comedic scenarios, while the kids served as audience surrogates, providing commentary, asking questions, and occasionally participating in the historical events themselves. The Histeria! Kids consisted of Loud Kiddington, Charity Bazaar, Froggo, Aka Pella, and Pule Houser.
Despite its educational aspirations, Histeria! primarily aimed to entertain. Its fast-paced humor, wacky characters, and irreverent approach to history set it apart from more traditional educational programming. While the show was praised for its creativity and comedic writing, it also faced criticism for its historical inaccuracies and potential to trivialize important events. The show was cancelled after three seasons.
