HMS Clarence (1812)

HMS Clarence was a 74-gun third-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched in 1812. She was built at Woolwich Dockyard according to the lines of the Vengeur-class design.

Her service history primarily involved duties in the Mediterranean and patrolling the coasts of Europe. She did not participate in any major fleet actions. In peacetime, ships like Clarence were crucial for maintaining British naval presence and enforcing maritime law.

The Clarence was eventually converted to a storeship in the mid-19th century. This involved removing her guns and fitting her with cargo holds to transport supplies and personnel. Her role as a storeship extended her useful life, although she was no longer a fighting vessel. She was later broken up. Details regarding her exact dates of service as a storeship and her dismantling vary depending on the source.
