John Hales (bishop of Exeter)
John Hales (died 14 September 1537) was an English cleric who served as Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield (1530–1534) and Bishop of Exeter (1534–1537).
Hales was educated at King's College, Cambridge, becoming a Fellow in 1495 and graduating B.A. in 1497/8. He proceeded to M.A. in 1501. He held various ecclesiastical positions including Archdeacon of Chester from 1523 until his elevation to the episcopate.
He was consecrated Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield in 1530. His tenure was relatively short, as he was translated to the see of Exeter in 1534, succeeding John Veysey. He died in 1537 and was succeeded by John Veysey, who was restored to the bishopric of Exeter. Little is known about his activities or impact as bishop.
