Crag Cave
Crag Cave is a limestone cave located near Castleisland, County Kerry, Ireland. It is a show cave, meaning it is open to the public for guided tours. The cave system is composed of passages and chambers adorned with stalactites and stalagmites, formed over millions of years by the dissolving action of rainwater on the limestone rock.
The cave was discovered in 1983 by cavers, and subsequently developed for tourism. The tours typically highlight various formations, including the "Crystal Gallery," which is noted for its abundance of sparkling calcite crystals. The formations are naturally lit to enhance their visual appeal.
Beyond the geological significance, Crag Cave also offers an outdoor visitor experience, including a gift shop, cafe, and children's play area. The cave's formation and the surrounding karst landscape contribute to the area's biodiversity and geological heritage. The cave is considered a popular tourist destination in County Kerry.
