Mantorras
Mantorras, born Pedro Manuel Mantorras, (born March 18, 1982) is a retired Angolan professional footballer who played primarily as a striker.
Mantorras is most notably remembered for his time at Portuguese club Benfica. He signed for Benfica in 2001 and quickly became a fan favorite due to his explosive pace, dribbling ability, and goal-scoring prowess. However, his career was severely hampered by persistent knee injuries which limited his appearances and ultimately forced his early retirement.
Despite the injury setbacks, Mantorras made a significant impact on Benfica, helping the club win the Portuguese Cup in 2004 and the Portuguese League title in 2005. He was also a key member of the Angola national team, participating in the 2006 FIFA World Cup and several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. He is considered a national hero in Angola.
His commitment and contributions to Benfica, despite his injuries, earned him legendary status among supporters. Following his retirement, he has remained involved with Benfica in various capacities.
