Béni Saf
Béni Saf is a coastal town and commune located in northwestern Algeria, in the Ain Témouchent Province. It lies on the Mediterranean Sea, roughly halfway between Oran and the Moroccan border.
Historically significant for its iron ore deposits, Béni Saf was a major mining center, particularly during the French colonial period. Mining operations have significantly shaped the town's development and economy. The iron ore extracted was primarily exported to Europe.
The town features a natural harbour. Beyond mining, fishing and related industries contribute to the local economy. Tourism also plays a role, owing to Béni Saf's coastal location and beaches.
The population is predominantly Arab. The climate is Mediterranean, characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters.
