Derzhava (Ukrainian party)

Derzhava (Держава), meaning "State" or "Great Power" in Ukrainian, was a nationalist political party in Ukraine. It was officially registered in November 1994 and dissolved by a decision of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on March 25, 2019.

The party’s ideology was characterized by a strong emphasis on Ukrainian national identity, state-building, and geopolitical ambitions for Ukraine to become a significant power in the region. Key tenets included the promotion of Ukrainian language and culture, support for a strong Ukrainian army and national defense, and a vision of Ukraine as a sovereign and independent nation with a prominent role in international affairs. The party also espoused certain economic policies, which often advocated for state intervention and protectionism to foster domestic industry.

Derzhava participated in several parliamentary elections in Ukraine, but failed to gain representation in the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament). Its electoral support remained relatively low, often reflecting the fragmentation of the nationalist political spectrum in Ukraine.

Over its existence, Derzhava was led by various individuals, and its political platform and activities evolved to reflect the changing political landscape of Ukraine. Despite its relatively small size and limited electoral success, Derzhava contributed to the broader discourse on Ukrainian national identity and state-building.

The reasons for the party's dissolution in 2019 included failure to update registration documents in accordance with the law.
