Schlossgarten (Karlsruhe)
The Schlossgarten Karlsruhe (Karlsruhe Palace Garden) is a large public park located in the city center of Karlsruhe, Germany. It extends from the rear (north) side of the Karlsruhe Palace and reaches towards the northern districts of the city.
The park's history dates back to the 18th century, when it was originally designed as a formal Baroque garden. Over time, the Schlossgarten underwent significant transformations, transitioning from a highly structured, symmetrical layout to a more informal English landscape garden style. This evolution involved incorporating naturalistic features such as meandering pathways, rolling lawns, and artificial lakes.
Today, the Schlossgarten serves as a major recreational area for the residents and visitors of Karlsruhe. It features diverse attractions, including the botanical garden, various sculptures and monuments, numerous lawns for relaxation and picnics, and pathways for walking, jogging, and cycling. Special events, such as concerts and festivals, are frequently held within the park's grounds, further enhancing its appeal and significance to the community. The park is also home to the Bundesverfassungsgericht (Federal Constitutional Court of Germany).
