Fokkeria

Fokkeria is a genus of succulent plants belonging to the family Apocynaceae, subfamily Asclepiadoideae. These caudiciform plants are native to Southern Africa, primarily found in South Africa and Namibia.

Fokkeria species are characterized by their large, tuberous caudex, which stores water and nutrients, allowing them to survive in arid environments. From the caudex emerge slender, twining stems with small leaves. The plants are deciduous, losing their leaves during the dry season.

The flowers of Fokkeria are typically star-shaped and greenish-yellow to yellowish-brown in color. They are relatively small and inconspicuous.

The genus is named after Abraham Fokker, a Dutch nurseryman who was one of the first to cultivate these plants.

Fokkeria species are popular among collectors of succulent plants due to their unusual appearance and drought tolerance. They require well-draining soil and a sunny location to thrive. Overwatering is a common problem that can lead to rot.
