NGC 5101

NGC 5101 is a spiral galaxy located in the constellation Hydra. It is approximately 66 million light-years away from Earth. The galaxy was discovered by William Herschel on March 28, 1786.

NGC 5101 is classified as an Sb galaxy, indicating it is a spiral galaxy with moderately tightly wound arms and a prominent central bulge. It is observed nearly edge-on from our perspective, making it appear elongated.

Its diameter is estimated to be around 90,000 light-years, slightly smaller than our own Milky Way galaxy. The galaxy's recessional velocity is approximately 1450 km/s, which is used to estimate its distance.

NGC 5101 is a member of the NGC 5061 group, a relatively small galaxy group.
