Donegal West (Dáil constituency)

Donegal West was a Dáil constituency in Ireland from 1937 to 1961. It elected three Teachtaí Dála (TDs) to Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas (Irish Parliament), using the single transferable vote (STV) form of proportional representation.

The constituency was created under the Electoral (Revision of Constituencies) Act 1937, replacing the earlier Donegal constituency. It comprised the western portion of County Donegal.

In 1961, Donegal West and Donegal East were merged to create the single five-seat constituency of Donegal under the Electoral (Amendment) Act 1961, in advance of the 1961 general election.

Notable TDs who represented Donegal West included:

  • Joseph Brennan (Fianna Fáil)
  • Brian MacEnery (Fianna Fáil)
  • Patrick O'Donnell (Fine Gael)

The boundaries of the constituency shifted slightly over its existence due to periodic boundary revisions, but its core area remained consistent: the western portion of County Donegal.
