Telangana
Telangana is a state located in southern India. Formed on 2 June 2014, it comprises the northwestern portion of the erstwhile state of Andhra Pradesh. The state capital is Hyderabad, which also serves as the capital of Andhra Pradesh for a transitional period.
History:
The region encompassing Telangana has a rich and diverse history, with rule by various dynasties including the Satavahanas, Kakatiyas, Delhi Sultanate, Bahmani Sultanate, Qutb Shahis, and the Mughals. The Nizams of Hyderabad held sway over the area for over two centuries until it was annexed to India in 1948. For many years, there was a movement advocating for a separate Telangana state, citing concerns over underdevelopment and cultural identity. This movement ultimately led to the formation of the present-day state.
Geography:
Telangana is situated on the Deccan Plateau and is largely comprised of semi-arid landscapes. The two major rivers flowing through the state are the Godavari and the Krishna. The state is bordered by Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh.
Demographics:
The primary languages spoken in Telangana are Telugu and Urdu. The state has a diverse population with a mix of religious and cultural backgrounds.
Economy:
The economy of Telangana is primarily agrarian, with significant contributions from the IT sector and other industries, particularly in and around Hyderabad. Key agricultural products include rice, cotton, sugarcane, and mangoes.
Government and Politics:
Telangana has a parliamentary system of government, with a unicameral legislature and a governor as the constitutional head of state. The state is divided into districts for administrative purposes.
