Alme (river)

The Alme is a river in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is a left tributary of the Lippe, and flows entirely within the Paderborn district.

The river's source is located near Büren, specifically in the Alme district. From there, the Alme flows primarily westwards, passing through or near towns and villages such as Wewelsburg, Borchen, and Etteln. It joins the Lippe River near Sande, which is part of Paderborn.

The Alme's watershed is primarily agricultural, and the river itself is utilized for various purposes, including irrigation. Efforts have been undertaken to improve the ecological status of the Alme, focusing on restoring natural river structures and improving water quality. The Alme Valley is also a popular recreational area for hiking and cycling.
