Lord Adam Gordon (British Army officer)
Lord Adam Gordon (c. 1750 – 26 February 1806) was a Scottish nobleman and officer in the British Army. He held the rank of General and served as Governor of Edinburgh Castle.
Gordon was the son of Cosmo Gordon, 3rd Duke of Gordon, and his wife, Lady Catherine Gordon. He entered the army and rose through the ranks, eventually achieving the rank of General in 1803. He was appointed Governor of Edinburgh Castle, a prestigious but largely ceremonial position.
He also served as a Member of Parliament, representing Aberdeenshire from 1774 to 1788. His parliamentary career was marked by his support for the government of the day.
Lord Adam Gordon died on 26 February 1806. He did not marry and had no known children. His career exemplified the social mobility and influence available to members of the aristocracy within the British Army and Parliament during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
