List of Singaporean electoral divisions (1997–2001)
This article lists the electoral divisions (also known as constituencies) used in Singapore for the 1997 and 2001 general elections. These divisions were groupings of polling districts used to elect Members of Parliament (MPs) to the Parliament of Singapore. Singapore's electoral system utilizes both Single Member Constituencies (SMCs) and Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs).
SMCs elected one MP each, while GRCs elected a team of MPs, one of whom had to be from a designated minority race (Malay, Indian, or Others). The size and boundaries of both SMCs and GRCs are determined by the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee, appointed before each general election. The review committee considers factors such as population changes and housing developments.
The electoral divisions in use between 1997 and 2001 were derived from the recommendations of the 1996 Electoral Boundaries Review Committee. These divisions were slightly revised prior to the 2001 general election, primarily due to population shifts and urban development. A complete list would need to specify the exact name of each SMC and the composition of each GRC for both the 1997 and 2001 elections. Changes between these two elections in terms of GRC compositions and name variations should also be noted. Without the full list of electoral divisions for both years, comprehensive details cannot be provided.
