Tengzhong

Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co. Ltd. (四川腾中重工机械有限公司) was a privately-owned Chinese heavy machinery company based in Sichuan Province. It gained international attention in 2009 when it announced a bid to acquire the Hummer brand from General Motors.

The company, while relatively obscure prior to the Hummer deal, specialized in the production of road construction equipment, concrete machinery, and other heavy industrial vehicles. Tengzhong faced significant scrutiny regarding its financial capabilities and its true ownership structure. Initial reports suggested a strong connection to the Chinese government, but Tengzhong maintained it was a privately held company.

Ultimately, the deal to acquire Hummer fell through in early 2010. Tengzhong was unable to secure the necessary approvals from the Chinese government, a key requirement for the transaction to be completed. Following the failed acquisition, Tengzhong largely faded from public view, and its current operational status is uncertain.
