2021 Liga 1 (Peru)
The 2021 Liga 1 season was the 105th edition of the Peruvian Primera División, the top-flight professional football league in Peru. It was organized by the Liga de Fútbol Profesional, a subsidiary of the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF). The season was played in a decentralized format, with matches taking place in various cities across Peru due to relaxed COVID-19 restrictions compared to the previous season which was heavily centralized in Lima.
Sporting Cristal were the champions, defeating Universitario in the final. As champions, Sporting Cristal qualified for the group stage of the 2022 Copa Libertadores. Other teams qualifying for the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana were determined based on their aggregate standings across the Apertura and Clausura tournaments.
The season featured two stages: Apertura and Clausura. The Apertura tournament was played in the first half of the year, and the Clausura tournament in the second half. The winners of each tournament played a two-legged final series to determine the national champion. Aggregate points across both tournaments also determined qualification for international competitions and relegation.
The season was marked by changes in managers at several clubs and competitive matches throughout the year. The COVID-19 pandemic still affected the season, with some matches being rescheduled or played behind closed doors due to local restrictions. Relegation was determined by aggregate points across the season.
