Father (rapper)
Father is an American rapper, record producer, and founder of the Awful Records collective. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, he is known for his distinctive delivery, characterized by a laid-back, almost nonchalant flow, often juxtaposed with explicit and often humorous lyrics.
Father gained wider recognition in the early 2010s through mixtapes and singles such as "Look at Wrist," which helped to establish Awful Records' presence in the underground hip-hop scene. His music often blends elements of trap, alternative hip-hop, and lo-fi aesthetics. His lyrics frequently explore themes of drug use, relationships, and the Atlanta lifestyle, often presented with a dark and satirical edge.
Awful Records, founded by Father, has served as a launching pad for numerous other artists including Abra, Playboi Carti (early in his career), and Ethereal. The collective is recognized for its DIY ethos and its influence on the development of Atlanta's underground hip-hop sound. Father's role extends beyond his own music; he has been instrumental in shaping the careers of other artists within Awful Records and contributing to the overall aesthetic and direction of the label. His production credits also include work on projects by other artists within and outside the Awful Records ecosystem.
