Swaffham

Swaffham is a market town and civil parish in the Breckland district of Norfolk, England. It is situated approximately 15 miles (24 km) east of King's Lynn and 31 miles (50 km) west of Norwich.

History: Swaffham has a long history, with evidence of settlement dating back to the Neolithic period. It is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. The town prospered in the Middle Ages as a market town, particularly for wool. The prominent market place, dominated by the Butter Cross, reflects this history. Swaffham also served as a stopping point for pilgrims heading to the shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham. The town suffered during the Dissolution of the Monasteries but recovered in later centuries.
