MV Elwha
The MV Elwha was a ferry operated by Washington State Ferries (WSF) in Puget Sound. Built in 1967 at the Puget Sound Bridge and Drydock Company in Seattle, she was part of the Super class of ferries, along with her sisters Hyak, Yakima, and Kaleetan. These ferries were designed to carry a large number of vehicles and passengers on WSF's busiest routes.
The Elwha primarily served the Seattle-Winslow (Bainbridge Island) route for much of her career, though she also occasionally served other routes in the WSF system as needed. She was known for her robust construction and reliability.
In 2010, the Elwha was retired from service after more than 40 years of operation. Following her retirement, she was sold for scrap. The removal of the Elwha and her sister ships from service marked a transition to newer, more modern ferries in the WSF fleet. The name "Elwha" refers to the Elwha River, located on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state.
