Under Suspicion (2000 film)

Under Suspicion is a 2000 thriller film directed by Stephen Hopkins, starring Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, and Monica Bellucci. It is a remake of the 1981 French film Garde à vue.

The film is set in Puerto Rico and centers around Henry Hearst (Gene Hackman), a wealthy and influential tax lawyer who is brought in for questioning by police captain Victor Benezet (Morgan Freeman) regarding the murder of a young girl. Hearst had discovered the body while jogging that morning.

The questioning takes place primarily within the police station over the course of a single day. As the interrogation progresses, inconsistencies and contradictions emerge in Hearst's story, leading Benezet to suspect that Hearst may be more involved in the crime than he initially claims. Benezet relentlessly probes Hearst's personal life, his marriage to his much younger wife, Chantal (Monica Bellucci), and his past, revealing hidden secrets and raising further doubts about his innocence.
